CAPT Asbury “Sandy” Coward IV

A CAPT Asbury Coward IV Fund has been established through the USNA Foundation to support the USNA Summer Seminar Program.

Continuing the legacy of Sandy Coward: Inspiring the next generation of Naval Officers

Captain Asbury “Sandy” Coward IV USNA ’64 was fiercely devoted to the Naval Academy and to the institution’s purpose of training excellent officers. Throughout his life, as a test pilot, a  commanding officer, a director of candidate guidance, and a vociferous sports fan, Sandy dedicated his energies to recruiting, molding, and encouraging young people at the Academy and in the Navy. He believed first and foremost in the development of midshipmen to become leaders for our Navy and Marine Corps and for our country. For Capt. C, attracting great midshipmen/students/leaders began before the admission process, with summer seminar, and we want to make continuing this effort a part of his legacy.

With the guidance and approval of his family, we have worked with USNA Foundation to endow a fund that broadens the reach of the USNA Summer Seminar Program. The Summer Seminar Program gives prospective students a taste of life on the Yard and has been an invaluable recruitment tool. Sandy recognized this when he was Director of Candidate Guidance, and this permanent endowment will support rising high school seniors from across the country to take part in the Summer Seminar by covering unmet costs for those who otherwise would not be able to attend.

Capt. C. has inspired generations of Academy graduates and Navy and Marine Corps officers. With your support, this fund will continue this vital legacy. Your donation honors Captain C, strengthens the Naval Academy, and shapes the future leaders of America.
